Chapter Nine

Fenton

We are quiet the entire drive to her place. I even ignore Frank, who has been blowing my phone up for the last two hours. He is not going to put her with that douche and expect me to just sit back and watch. At least Liam was a little more understanding. I am just glad Alan was able to meet us on such short notice. Otherwise, today would have not ended very pretty.

We pull up to her apartment and she starts to get out but I grab her arm. She looks at me in question.

“Promise me something.”

She cocks her eyebrow. “What?”

“Please don’t wear the dress from the first night we met to that dinner tonight.” Her answer doesn’t come as quickly as I would like.

“I can’t promise you that. I don’t think I have anything else to wear on such short notice.” Surprising both of us, she brings her lips to mine. Just thinking about where her mouth may be later is making me crazy. This fuels me to deepen our kiss to the point I think I need to actually step inside her mouth in order to get any closer. But when she doesn’t struggle she answers my unspoken question.

When I pull back, she hesitates before opening her eyes. She is savoring my taste which still lingers on her lips. I feel somewhat relieved letting her go, knowing she now has a taste of what she can have.

“Be careful tonight and call me if you need anything,” I say as though I am dismissing her. She lingers a few seconds and I am not sure if she is going to get out. After a long sigh, she opens the door and steps out of my truck. I have to leave without looking back or I am going to pull her back in the truck with me and demand that she stay home tonight. I don’t want to be that douche, so I leave her, looking confused and wondering why. This Shane character makes me nervous because he is an unknown variable. I need to know who I am sending her off with and who I am up against.

I have never been so determined to be with a woman. This chick has infiltrated my mind. I go to sleep thinking about her and I wake up thinking about her. I was able to ignore it before; I could skip a night or two by going to bed so damn drunk I couldn’t think about anything. But I won’t be able to do that now. I thought if we got it out of the way I could get her out of my head like the rest of them. But I will never lose my craving for her soft skin. I groan to myself, quit fucking thinking about it.

I walk into the bar and smile when I see that Camille has already set up my shot. I put up another finger and she begins pouring again. I down the two shots and head to my office.
